Local History & Genealogy
History Vertical Files
Librarians have maintained a collection of newspaper and magazine articles, pamphlets, brochures, photographs, postcards, and other ephemera relating to people, places, businesses, organizations, and events in Laconia. Please note: these files are not all-inclusive for any given topic. Please ask a librarian for assistance.
Local History Room
This room is dedicated to books focusing on the history of the Laconia area, New Hampshire and New England. Included in this collection are Laconia City Directories, town histories, Laconia town reports, Laconia High School yearbooks, genealogies, and cemetery records.
Microfilm
The following newspapers are preserved on microfilm:
- Laconia Democrat Jan 1849 – Nov 1941
- News & Critic Mar 1889 – Nov 1945
- Laconia Citizen Jan 1926 – Sept 2016
- Laconia Daily Sun June 2000 – present
Instructions for using the microfilm machine are provided, and the Library staff is always happy to provide a quick tutorial. Articles can be emailed, or saved to a flash drive. Newspapers appear as they were originally published, and are not indexed. For this reason, please provide a date when submitting a request for an article or obituary.
For research assistance, please contact Deann at (603) 524-4775 ext. 11, or dhunter@laconialibrary.org.
Obituary Index
Library staff can perform a name search to assist in locating local obituaries that may be saved or emailed from microfilm. Please note: the Index is incomplete.
Our volunteers are currently helping to digitize our index. A spreadsheet is available of what is currently entered, attached at the end of this page.
